Our Story

Hi, we are Kate and Brian. Thank you for taking the time to view our page! We met in 2015 when we started law school. After years of friendship, we started dating and were married in 2019. One year later, we welcomed our dog, Moe! When we first brought Moe home, he hid under our dining room table for weeks. It took some time, but watching Moe grow into the sweet, loving and playful pup he is today has been one of the most rewarding experiences for us. We hope to volunteer in some way to assist other shelter animals in the near future.

We had our son, Brady, in 2022. Brady was born 6 weeks early and spent a month in the NICU with multiple health issues. I (Kate) ended up back in the hospital days after giving birth due to undiagnosed preeclampsia. Thankfully both Brady and I are healthy, happy and thriving at this point, but after going through a traumatic pregnancy, we made the decision to pursue adoption. Fortunately, adoption is not new to us in our family. Kate’s father was adopted from Germany, and her mother was adopted by her step father. So adoption has already played a large part in the creation of Kate’s family since well before her birth. We feel lucky that our future child will have numerous people to turn to as they process any thoughts or questions about adoption.

Kate is currently working remotely and part time in order to be home with Brady every day. We are blessed that Brady and our future child will not need to go to daycare. Brian also works remotely so he is around every day for lunchtime which is really special for Brady.

Family Life

We are Christian and spiritual. Our son was baptized and we intend on baptizing our future child as well. While we do not attend church every Sunday, we try to go as often as we can. We intend on teaching our children about our Christian values and instilling that belief system in them as well.

We also intend on instilling the importance of community service in our children too. As young children, Kate and her brother were brought to the soup kitchen on regular basis with their mom. This focus on community service ultimately led Kate into public interest legal work, and her desire to continue volunteering to date. We both want to do similar work with our children starting at a young age to show them the importance of helping others. Although Brady is still very young, we hosted a food drive for our community food pantry over Halloween. While Brady didn’t totally understand what we were doing, he enjoyed helping us package all the donations and delivering them to the pantry.

We have one dog, Moe! Brady loves Moe so much, “Moe” was actually his first word!

Lifestyle

We moved into our “forever home” in August of last year. We live in a wonderful town, full of lots of things for families to do and plenty of great places to spend time outside. We live close to many farms, parks, and walking trails – which we frequent very often as we love to be outside. We live in a safe neighborhood at the end of a cul-de-sac. Our town also has an excellent school system. Kate has loved to garden since she was a child. We plan on building a garden in the near future to start to grow our own fruits and veggies! Kate also loves to read (Harry Potter is her favorite series) and spend time at the beach. Brian enjoys working out and going for runs around the neighborhood. He loves being down the shore in the summertime and spending time by the firepit in the fall. We also love spending time with friends and family. We are fortunate to have many friends and family living close by – some of whom have kids Brady’s age.

Adoption

We are happy to share updates via letters, emails and/or pictures. Our goal will be to share updates in whatever form, and at whatever frequency, that makes you feel most comfortable. We will always keep lines of communication open and would be open to annual visits at the Family Options picnic.

Best Wishes

We feel extremely hopeful and blessed to be able to grow our family through adoption. We are eager to share our love with another child and to watch this child become Brady’s best friend. While Brady’s use of the English language still needs some work (he’s only 2), he has certainly tried to express that he would love to have a “baby boy” or “baby girl” sibling to love, protect, and share all his toys with.
