Our Story
Hello and welcome to our page; we are Derek and Seana. Our story began on Match.com when Seana decided to send Derek a message. After exchanging countless messages and discovering our shared sense of humor, Derek suggested a first date- axe throwing!
While it may not be the most traditional first date, it was perfect for Seana. Our time axe throwing was filled with laughter, great conversation, and a connection so strong we didn’t want the night to end. The evening continued at a beloved restaurant of Derek’s, where family had shared many memories over the years.
After dating for several months, Derek brought our story full circle by proposing at the site of our first date and then celebrating with both of our families. We then said “I do” and began our next chapter as husband and wife. We eventually sold our individual homes and found our forever home in a quiet, charming neighborhood, where we look forward to raising a family together.
Family Life
Since we are both Catholic, we look forward to raising our child in the Catholic faith, continuing to build a life grounded in love, faith, and family.
We share our home with a 13-year-old Labrador Retriever mix named Abbie, who is the heart and soul of our family. She is Seana’s first dog.
Derek has grown up with Hungarian Vizslas (a breed of dog) and it wouldn’t be a surprise if one day a Vizsla is added to our family.
Lifestyle
Derek was an avid obstacle course racer, competing in events across the United States until 2019, when he paused to focus on school commitments. Before traveling for Spartan Races, Derek competed in various open water swim races throughout the East Coast as a member of United States Masters Swimming. Derek hopes to return to open water swim racing in the near future.
Like Derek, Seana has a competitive spirit. She participated in and placed in various triathlons in the Tri-State Area. While she has stepped away from competing, she still fondly recalls the thrill of race day. Seana also continues her passion of athletics by coaching several sports at the high school level.
In August 2024, we purchased a house located in the same town where Seana teaches and coaches. As we settle in, we’re making minor renovations while excitedly preparing to welcome our future child into our lives.
Our home is in an ideal neighborhood for families, especially during Halloween. This past year, we enjoyed eating dinner outside while handing out candy to more than 70 trick-or-treaters, all of whom delighted us with their politeness. Though we’re new to the area, we’ve enjoyed meeting our neighbors and sharing our plans to adopt in the near future.
As we searched for our new home, we prioritized finding a town with diversity. While we loved the towns where we previously lived, we realized diversity had not been a significant factor in those areas.
With Seana’s experience as a teacher, she became familiar with the town’s blend of ethnic backgrounds. We felt it would provide a welcoming and inclusive environment, especially as we plan to adopt. It gives us confidence that our future child will grow up in a community that values diversity and inclusion.
Adoption
We hope to have an open adoption, embracing you as an integral part of our child’s life. While every adoption journey is unique, we are committed to understanding and respecting the level of involvement you wish to have.
We would be happy to share updates with you, whether through a private social media account like Instagram, via email or mail, or annually at the picnic. Our goal is to ensure both sides of the family feel connected and happy. If you happen to live nearby, we would gladly welcome you into our home with open arms, as you will always hold a special place in our family.
